What is osteopathy?
Osteopathy is a philosophy discovered in 1855 by Andrew Taylor Still. By observing the complete work of nature in the form of the human body, the philosophy of osteopathy was developed, taught and practiced.
Osteopathically, the body is viewed as a complete machine, designed so that every bone has a place, purpose and function. When all the bones in our body are in the right place, the body will function in a normal state, free from symptoms. If a bone is not in the right place, the body will function in an abnormal state and symptoms will be present.
The practice of osteopathy is a hands on manual therapy. Osteopaths uses their hands to collect information on how a body is moving and functioning. With a thorough knowledge of how the body works, an osteopath can reason their way from a patient's symptoms (effect) to determine the part of the body requiring treatment (cause).
